DAY 1: Cusco – Wiñay Huayna  – Aguas Calientes (L)

We will pick you upu from your hotel very early in the morning and travel directly to the train station where we catch the train that follows the Urubumba River in the Sacred Valley of the Incas until Km 104.  Here we start the trek, crossing the bridge after checking in with original passports at the government control check-point.  Right after passing the control point, we will visit the Archeological ruins of Chachabamba, an altitude of 2250 meters above sea level.  This was an important place for agricultural products to be brought for transport to Cusco.  We then continue the trek until Wiñay Huayna, along the way we will have beautiful views of the Urubumba River and the opportunity to observe a mega diversity of flora, among them many famous orchids.

Wiñay Huayna is another point of visit to learn about the history of these important archeological ruins.  After lunch, we continue the trek until Machu Picchu, passing through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), watching the sunset over the famous temple.  We then descend by bus to Aguas Calientes town, located at 2000 m.a.s.l.  Here you will be introduced to your respective hotels, and have the evening to explore the town, with many touristic restaurant options.

After breakfast provided in hotel, we walk to the bus station to take the bus up the mountain to the Machu Picchu entrance (about 30 minutes and 400 meters above the Aguas Calientes town).  With opportunity to see the sunrise, your guided tour of the citadel then commences, visiting the main plaza, Circular Tower (Torre Circular), Sacred Solar Clock (Sagrado Reloj Solar), the Sacred Quarters, Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries.  Later you will have free time to tour the rest of Machu Picchu, take photos and finally descend back down the mountain in bus to Aguas Calientes town.  Here you will catch the return train to Cusco city.
